Copy last season into a new one
Most leagues run the same shape every year: the same age groups, the same teams, the same fields, roughly the same fees. Copying last season gets you that in one step.
Copy it
Section titled “Copy it”- Open Seasons.
- Find the season you just finished.
- Tap Copy.
- Give the new one a name and its start and end dates.
- Save.
What comes across
Section titled “What comes across”- The teams, with their names and age groups.
- Your fields and venues.
- Your registration form, with its questions.
- Your fee amounts.
What does not come across
Section titled “What does not come across”Players do not. This is the part people expect to be different, so it is worth being blunt about: a new season starts with empty rosters on purpose.
Children move up an age group, families move away, and a roster copied forward is a roster that quietly keeps a child in a league their parents left. Everyone signs up again, every season. That is also what gets you a fresh signed form and a current phone number.
The order to do things in
Section titled “The order to do things in”- Copy the season. Check the dates.
- Check the teams. Delete the ones you are not running. Add new age groups.
- Check the fees. They came from last year.
- Check the form people sign. A new season is the right moment to update it.
- Open sign-ups.
- Build the teams as people sign up.
- Add the games.
Worked example. Autumn 2025 finished on 15 November with six teams across U8, U10 and U12. For Autumn 2026 you want to add U14.
- Copy Autumn 2025. Name it Autumn 2026, 1 September to 14 November.
- Six teams arrive, named as they were. Add two U14 teams.
- The fee came across as $180. You are raising it to $195 — change it now, before sign-ups open, not after.
- Rosters are empty. That is right.
Can I copy a season from a different league?
Section titled “Can I copy a season from a different league?”No. Seasons belong to one league. If you run several leagues that are all the same shape, set one up properly and copy it forward each year within that league.
TODO — product owner to confirm whether this is on the roadmap.
Common mistakes
Section titled “Common mistakes”- Copying and forgetting the dates. The new season keeps last year’s dates until you change them, and sign-ups then close in the past.
- Expecting the players. See above.
- Copying twice. You end up with two seasons of the same name and families sign up for the wrong one.
